Choice Bro wins first up as three year old
12 January 2013
Choice Bro

Choice Bro (Choisir x Ladidi) stormed home to win first up over 1200m at Awapuni today. It was a top effort by last year's Manawatu Sires Produce winner, which from all reports has had its share of problems since. The training connections made a good comment after the race, saying "if you don't ask, you don't get from colts". Perhaps they have plans to geld the horse.

Cum Dividend wins at first attempt in city
14 December 2012

Reliable gelding Cum Dividend (Show A Heart x Hello Crystal) made the perfect city debut with a brilliant win over 1200m at Moonee Valley. I bought this 4yo for clients of Shaun Dwyer at the Melbourne Sale for $14,000. He was a little immature as a yearling but now seems to be coming to hand nicely. If you’re wondering about the name, it actually means ‘when a buyer of a security is entitled to receive a dividend that has been declared, but not paid’.

Jack Romanov wins two in four days

Unfortunately only one will count! The 4yo gelding by Ustinov x Colmerino won the corresponding maiden race at Riccarton last Friday – before it was declared a 'no race' becuase of cones left out at the 1000m mark. Jack Romanov was a $2,500 purchase at the NZ Weanling Sale for a new client from Perth. Now he’s running over a trip he could prove a useful stayer.

Between the Beats wins second up at Sandown
5 December 2012
Between The Beats

That’s win number four for the 5yo gelding. Best seen over middle distances, Between the Beats (Golan x Whistling Jazz) is now trained by Mike Moroney at Flemington. This is the horse that ran 8th in Jimmy Choux’s NZ Derby. I bought him for $105,000 at the Ready to Run sale, for a client who wanted a potential stayer.

Group I and II for Robbie!

What a day for Robbie Heathcote on Saturday, first taking out the Schillaci Stakes with Buffering then the Toorak with Solzhenitsyn. He will now press on to the Waterford Crystal Mile before tackling the Emirates Mile on the final day of the Flemington carnival. After the race Robbie told journalists, "Solzhenitsyn came to me in great order from Richard Otto, who knew it had a lot of potential. The first day I started him he came from last to run fourth, and I said to the boys this is a horse who will be on the front pages of the papers someday. Paul is my primary bloodstock agent, most of the success I have had in my career can be attributed to the horses Paul buys." Thanks for the plug mate!

Cum Dividend on way to city class
29 August 2012

Cum Dividend (Show a Heart x Hello Crystal) continued on his winning way yesterday with another gritty performance at Seymour. The $14,000 yearling purchase, in the stable of Shaun Dwyer, has now won or been placed in five of his eight starts and looks likely to go through to city class.

Promising stayers find form
23 August 2012

Two promising staying prospects won in Australia on the weekend. Brilliant Dragon (Hidden Dragon x Lady Brilliant), trained by Robbie Heathcote, won by more than four lengths in his first start past 1600m. While Captain Stipo (King’s Chapel x Bella Veloce) won over a mile at his fourth start for Shaun Dwyer. Brilliant Dragon was a $42,500 yearling purchase. I paid $40,000 for the other horse at the Ready to Run sale.
