The former Friday Flash form analyst got serious about thoroughbred breeding after stints at Whitsbury Manor in Hampshire (UK), and Gestut Rottgen, a major private farm in Germany that stood Star Appeal (the sire of Star Way).

 

On returning to New Zealand, Paul took up a position at Gressier Stud before moving into the pedigree department at Wrightson Bloodstock for eight years.

 

He set up as a thoroughbred consultant in 1996. Astute purchases on behalf of clients since then - 17 have gone on to become Group 1 performers - prove you don't have to spend the most money in the ring to get the best horses on the track.
